Child Rights Action Hubs (Action Hubs) are collaborative, multi-stakeholder initiatives that address systemic child labour risks affecting multiple companies within a specific region. By bringing together businesses, civil society, governments and local actors, these hubs aim to identify and tackle the root causes of child labour in supply chains and communities.

To date, The Centre has launched Action Hubs in Malaysia (palm oil), Bangladesh (RMG), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) (copper-cobalt mining), India (mint) and Pakistan (leather and textiles). These Hubs facilitate multi-stakeholder action to address child labour at scale and enable brands to participate in joint activities.

Action Hubs aim to achieve impact and sustainability in addressing child labour by securing long-term funding for Hub initiatives, establishing strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders, and engaging local government and other civil society organisations to improve child labour prevention and remediation structures.

ACTION HUBS FOCUS ON BREAKING CHILD LABOUR CYCLES BY:

  • Facilitating and scaling joint solutions to child labour that maximise collective leverage between brands and retailers

  • Addressing gaps left by traditional initiatives, especially in informal/lower tiers

  • Enabling multi-stakeholder collaboration to address challenges in scaling and optimising ‘landscape approaches’

  • Working at sub-contractor and lower tier levels where significant child labour risks remain

  • Building strong local networks and engaging with local governments and other key stakeholders for faster progress

ACTION HUB ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

  • Supply chain mapping & risk assessments – identifying child labour risks in upstream supply chains

  • Training & capacity building – workshops and training sessions for your suppliers, including those in lower tiers

  • Youth employment programmes – initiatives to provide decent work opportunities for young workers

  • Child labour remediation –addressing child labour cases

  • Hub ecosystem support – supporting efforts to engage local CSOs, industry associations, local/national government to build capacity to prevent and remediate child labour
